The Town of Minnedosa is located in the Westman Region 210 km northwest of Winnipeg. Resting at the junction of Highways 10 and 16, the community of approximately 2470 residents is within 30 minutes of Brandon as well as Riding Mountain National Park.
The economy of Minnedosa is based largely on an agricultural industry that includes field crops and livestock production. Two major manufacturing plants related to the farm economy operate in Minnedosa, one producing farm machinery and the other producing Ethanol from locally produced grain.
Minnedosa is a full-service centre for agriculture in the area and has a thriving retail and business district serving the needs of the residents of Minnedosa and surrounding communities.
One of Manitoba’s largest employers, Heritage Coop, has it’s Administration Office in Minnedosa, which serves the communities of Minnedosa, Brandon, Wawanesa, Erickson and Sandy Lake. Canadian Photonic Labs, a manufacturer of electronic photo equipment and Prairie Geometrics, specializing in Geometrics Information Systems, compliment the economic activity with their global sales. Minnedosa Chamber of Commerce has 105 members supporting businesses locally and encouraging our residents to shop at home.
The community is well serviced with an 18 hole golf course, a 4 sheet curling rink, hockey and skating arena, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, bowling lanes and 2 fitness centre. The local Recreation Commission also provides a wide variety of programs and activities throughout the year, of interest to people of all ages.
The jewel of the community is Lake Minnedosa, lined with a beautiful sandy beach, cottages, summer homes and campground. The lake was home to rowing, canoeing and kayaking events at the Canada Summer Games. Fishing, boating and swimming are popular activities on the lake.
There is a ski hill within 15 minutes from town, numerous cross country ski trails, and a network of snowmobile trails to provide great winter recreation.
The area surrounding Minnedosa is known as “Pot Hole Country” nesting habitat for ducks and geese. The area also abounds with white tail deer.
Minnedosa boasts numerous walking trails, the most significant being the Historic Walking Trail, Oxbow Nature Trail and the Stonehouse Walking Tour. For the serious hiker, the Trans Canada Trail passes within 12 miles of Minnedosa.
