GEOGRAPHY / DEMOGRAPHICS

The Village of Cartwright is located at the junction of Highway 3 and 5, in the prime agricultural area of Southwestern Manitoba. It is just 10 kilometres from the United States border and the state of North Dakota.

Cartwright has a current population of approximately 300 people.

ECONOMIC BASE

The land around Cartwright is primarily mixed grains agriculture and livestock production. The Village has become a service centre for the Rural Municipality of Robin and outlying areas.

Retail shops in Cartwright sell groceries, hardware, lumber, clothing, gifts and flowers. Other services include a local Credit Union, a local weekly newspaper, Canada Post outlet, automobile and agricultural repairs, car wash, RTM house builders and convenience store.

RECREATION BASE

Local activities include the Cartwright Centennial Heritage Park, complete with campground and picnic areas, baseball diamonds and a play structure for the kids.

Badger Creek Park offers swimming in the cool water during the summer. Cartwright’s Ponderosa Days Fair, held the August long weekend is an opportunity for local residents and travelers to get together and enjoy the festivities.

Another attraction to the Cartwright area is the various museums. From the museum centered around a functioning blacksmith’s shop, to the Badger Creek and Schoolhouse Museum, they feature exhibits displaying the culture and history of the local area; complete with authentic artefacts supplied by local residents.
