The Town of Carberry, with a population of 1500, serves as a regional service centre to another 1900 residents in the surrounding Municipality of North Cypress, and is a progressive and prosperous community located just minutes from the Trans Canada Highway. Carberry is fortunate to be only 30 minutes from Brandon, Manitoba, a large prairie city, and 90 minutes from Winnipeg, Manitoba, our Provincial Capital.
Carberry itself is a friendly community comprised of many young families, seniors and everyone in between. The century-old Main Street is the centre of culture and commerce for the community. Its rare collection of historic buildings, within a newly designated heritage conservation district, offers an array of shops and services to meet every need. The surrounding Municipality of North Cypress is characterized by rolling hills and rich soils, which provide a stable agricultural base for our local economy. Our local population is growing with steady employment opportunities throughout the area.
Carberry and area is well known for its high-quality, global potato crop. McCain Foods Canada operates a potato processing facility in the region, providing countless employment opportunities for potato producers, seasonal workers, and factory employees. Various spin-off industries also operate within the region, and provide another stable job market for local residents. Cereal, oilseed and other crops are also grown within the region.
The Carberry Plains Community Centre is the heart of the community year-round. Swimming, hockey, skating, bowling, curling and other seasonal programs operate within the Centre.
Sprucewoods Provincial Park, located along the Assiniboine River, is only 15 minutes south of Carberry on #5 Highway. One can camp, hike, snowmobile, ski, swim, fish and enjoy a day at the beach. Mini golf, a canteen and boat rentals make a day trip to the Park a memorable family experience.
The Spirit Sands Desert, located within Sprucewoods Provincial Park, is a majestic desert paradise. One can explore its shifting sand dunes or hike one of the many guided trails. A truly unique desert ecosystem right here in Manitoba.
Sandhills Golf and Country Club, located in the RM of North Cypress, just south of Carberry on Highway #5, is well-known throughout Manitoba as a beautiful and challenging course to play. Affordable yearly membership fees and walk-on green fees make this course a must-play during the summer months.
The Carberry Plains Museum and The Seton Centre are also 2 local attractions for locals and visitors alike. The Museum features an extensive collection of artifacts from early prairie life, as well as collections from the 1950’s and 1960’s. The Seton Centre is a tribute to famed naturalist Ernest Thompson Seton, and displays his books, artwork and memorabilia from the formative years that he spent combing the hills around the Carberry Plains area.
Many festivals and fairs can be found throughout the year, celebrating unique prairie culture and the love of good food, friends and fun.
