GEOGRAPHY / DEMOGRAPHICS

The Community of Birtle is nestled in the beautiful Birdtail Valley, which is situated in Manitoba at the junction of Highway 42 and 83. Highway 83 is a provincial north-south artery that provides a major link between the Northern Manitoba Parklands and the United States. We are 11 km south of Highway 16, 322 km west of Winnipeg, 150 km northwest of Brandon and 320 km east of Regina, Saskatchewan. The Town and Rural Municipality of Birtle are home to approximately 1500 residents. The uniqueness and safety of our region makes living in the Birdtail Valley an exceptional experience!

ECONOMIC BASE

Birtle is an agricultural service centre for the prosperous farming community in the area. Our innovative farmers, rich soil and stable climate will encourage further diversification and continued health for agriculture and related businesses.

RECREATION BASE

The Birdtail Valley cuts deeply into the prairie landscape and offers many attractions for residents. The valley is a beautiful backdrop for all outdoor activities in all seasons. We offer residents scenery, serenity and safety. Recreational amenities in the area are diverse and well developed. Our golf course is a challenging scenic 9-hole course with mature grass greens along the picturesque Birdtail River. The newly renovated Clubhouse will give you time to relax while taking in the beautiful views.

Cross-country ski trails, bird watching, fishing, hiking and canoeing are just some of the recreational opportunities available in our community. Other facilities for sports include the tennis courts, swimming area and beach, fairground with race track and ball diamonds, playgrounds for children, soccer field, basketball court, park and campground. A curling rink, skating and hockey rink and snowmobile trails offer great winter fun.
